Positive Coaching Alliance

“Be true to the game, because the game will be true to you. If you try to shortcut the game, then the game will shortcut you. If you put forth the effort, good things will be bestowed upon you. That’s truly the meaning of the game and in some ways, that’s life too.”

-Michael Jordan

Building on the foundation set by Evanston Hockey Director Del Morris’ four pillars of respect, sportsmanship, honesty and responsibility and in alignment with Evanston Hockey's mission, Evanston Hockey renewed its partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). PCA is a national, non-profit organization that develops better athletes and better people through resources for youth and high school coaches, parents, administrators and student-athletes.

The program works to disseminate the best practices for coaching and player development. Its mission is to create a climate where our youth athletes not only improve their performance, but develop a lasting passion for sports and bring the lessons learned off the rink into their lives.

For parents and players interested in resources on managing the pressures of youth sports culture, communicating with your child’s coach, or long term player development —please check out their website at www.PCADEVZONE.org.

For the 2018-19 season, Evanston Hockey is launching a Coach/Player of the Month recognition program. See details below.

Honor the Game: Nominate Coach/Player of the Month

Evanston Hockey has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance, and we want to recognize players and coaches who honor the game.

Tell us how your coach or assistant coach gets the team to achieve its best, teaching athletes to put forward maximum effort while learning and improving without letting a fear of mistakes get in the way of their success. The Positive Coaching Alliance calls this a double goal coach, one whose first goal is winning, with a second, more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports.

Send an email to with your coach's information and details about how he / she is helping build great teammates, athletes and kids.

And players can honor the game, too! Coaches, parents and teammates can nominate individual players for "player of the month." These individuals consistently work to make themselves better, their teammates better and the sport better. Tell us about a teammate who goes above and beyond every practice and every game.

Send an email to with your player nomination, including details about how he / she is helping build great teammates, athletes and kids.

A winner for both the player and coach of the month will be selected at random from the nominations submitted every month, with the Board of Directors and hockey director reviewing the finalists before they are announced. Nominations are due the first Tuesday of every month.
